Sources: Monte Mcnair Out As Kings Gm After Play-in Loss

Monte McNair is out as Kings GM after a mutual agreement with the team, ending a five-year run highlighted by a major playoff breakthrough in 2023.

Sacramento’s season ended in a 120-106 loss to the Mavericks in the play-in tournament, marking their third straight year reaching at least 40 wins.

McNair led the Kings to a 48-34 record in 2023, winning NBA Executive of the Year and snapping the team’s 16-year playoff drought.

Under McNair, the Kings had a .488 win percentage, a big improvement from their .362 mark from 2006-07 until he took over in 2020.

Despite regular-season success, the Kings failed to advance deep in the playoffs, leading to an offseason full of change in the front office.

McNair’s exit comes just weeks after assistant GM Wes Wilcox left to become general manager of the University of Utah’s men’s basketball team.

McNair helped build a competitive roster, reshaping the team’s culture and leading them to three consecutive 40+ win seasons for the first time since 2006.

Sacramento now enters a critical offseason, needing a new GM to build on McNair’s progress and push the team deeper into the postseason.
