Brandon Williams will receive a two-year standard contract from the Mavericks once they can add a player to the 15-man roster after April 10.
Due to hard-cap restrictions, Dallas has been unable to sign another player. Williams hit his 50-game limit as a two-way player but has impressed.
Williams averaged 8.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 14.8 minutes per game, with efficient shooting splits of .511/.379/.857 this season.
After Kyrie Irving’s ACL injury in March, Williams' role increased, and he responded with 16.6 points and 4.5 assists over the next 11 games.
Williams started his NBA career with the Trail Blazers in 2021–22 and spent the 2022–23 season in the G League before joining Dallas.
He signed two-way deals with Dallas in 2023 and again last summer, showing promise and possibly stepping into a larger role next season.
With the Mavericks short on guards, Williams is expected to play a key role in the postseason and may even start next year with Irving out.
Dallas considered Kessler Edwards and Kai Jones for the roster spot too. Waiting until Friday would allow them to add two if someone is waived.
